November 19, 2004
Greetings MacAttorney members/readers!
On September 23, 2004 this author met with Phil Schiller, Apple's Senior
Vice President of Product Marketing, and other Apple employees involved
with business markets, and spoke with them about the Macintosh law office
market. They said that Apple had decided to take a cautious approach
back into a select few business markets where it appeared that there was
a good likelihood of success. One of those markets was the law office
market! I spoke with them about the challenges the market faces, and
what Apple might be able to do to help. They listened to all of my
suggestions and appeared sincere about assisting Macintosh-using
attorneys overcome the barriers some of us have faced with using a
Macintosh in our practices.
The first sign that Apple is interested in the law office market is now
up on Apple's Web site. They have put up a new "legal" page:
<http://www.apple.com/business/solutions/legal.html>
I've remained in contact with Apple, and I can tell you that there has
been definite movement in areas such as encouraging the courts not to
implement Windows-only electronic court filing systems, developing a
Macintosh equivalent to ExamSoft's SofTest, evangelizing software
developers to write programs for the Macintosh law office market, etc.
The next issue of The MacAttorney Newsletter is still a couple of weeks
away, but I thought that it was important to get the following
information to you sooner rather than later.
